Chinese hot pot
Serving suggestion
Serves 4-6. The cooking pot required can be purchased from Asian food stores. Various kinds of hot pots are available including charcoal, gas and electric. The pot is placed in the centre of the table and the guests cook their own choice of food in the soup.
Ingredients - optional suggestions
Beef fillet 250g
Pork fillet 250g
Chicken breast 240g
Boneless white fish fillet 500g
Fish balls
Squid
Un-cooked prawns
500g
Bamboo shoots
1 can
Baby corn
125g
Straw mushrooms
400g
Chinese cabbage
300g
Baby bok choy
300g
Bean sprouts
150g
Chopped fried tofu
150g
White carrots
200g
Bean thread vermicelli
Chicken stock or spicy satay stock 3l
Cooking method
1 - Cut beef, chicken, pork, squid and fish into very thin slices. Shell prawns leaving tails intact. Arrange on a serving plate.
2 - Arrange other ingredients on another serving plate.
3 - Pour boiling chicken stock into the hot pot and continue to simmer.
4 - Allow guests to cook their own choice of food in the hot pot.
5 - Serve in Chinese bowls with soy sauce, hoisin sauce and chilli sauce.
